In general ba gua is one of the unique kun g fu system among all other martial art styles. One of the reason is that ba gua is performance around the circle. This is yin - yang circle, but this circle performance is non directional and multi directional.
Regarding to its theory, even though, same as tai chi and xing yi , theory - principles are based on ancient Chinese philosophy, traditional Chinese medicine and other Chinese cultural elements.
ba gua is not different because of circle performance, ba gua consist of tai chi and xing yi principles combined. Briefly, the fluidity and interconnectedness among attacks, defence movements, strikes, locks and throws indicates its characteristics. The complicated and directional changes of kicks, arm strikes, defences and counter attacks can be from different angles, while using circular and spiralling actions.
Actions around circle or spiralling actions are at various low stances, facing mostly the centre and sometimes outside of circle, which implies change of directions.
The form which contains the complex movements and stances, internal power, physical body mechanics, is based on the body rotation and mental state sharpness.
All elements of actions are expected to be in coordination with the energy and the physical body mechanics. Its movements are sometimes slow and fast, changeable quickly and fluidly, moreover movements could be both hard – soft, gentle.
